Welcome to The Upper 20

Rome wasn't built in a day. Neither was the upper20, and we started in 2004. And we're still working on it.

This story concerns the events to stake 20 acres and build two cabins in the aftermath of the Wolf Creek Fire of 2004. The fire, which covered 215,000 acres occurred during a season in which over 7 million acres burned throughout Alaska. The fire also burned large swaths of the 45,000 acre staking area.

Unlike the Homestead act of 1862, there are no "proving" requirements and the total acreage is limited to 5-20acres. You stake your parcel, which is then surveyed and sold to you at fair market value.

As I write this in 2026, I'd be remiss not to acknowledge the continuing help that Jim and I received over the years to bring the concept of the Upper20 to reality. My wife Jenn, Len, John, Rick, Phoebe, Dan, Sammy and my own kids. And especially Jim. This would not have happened without you guys.
